No Drill Installation SumoSprings for Ford F-53

SuperSprings RV and Travel Trailer, SumoSprings 20 Comments

SuperSprings International, Inc. (Carpinteria, California) introduced new SumoSprings Front Rebel kits for Ford F-53 Class A gasoline motorhome applications. Part number series SSF-17 replaces the SSF-18 series. The new SSF-17 SumoSprings Front Rebel kits feature a new top bracket and jounce. The new and innovative top bracket allows the SumoSprings to be installed without any drilling on 2008-2017 applications – a simple bolt on installation that can be completed in less than one hour. The SumoSprings Maxim jounce has been replaced with a SumoSprings Rebel two-piece jounce that allows for unlimited travel, yet maintains the same progressive spring rate and capacity. This unlimited travel provides added ride comfort inside the coach.

As part of our commitment to customer service, SuperSprings has introduced these new innovative suspension solutions, all new SSF-17 SumoSprings, at the same price as the previous SSF-18 kits,Ā MSRP $573.75.

The SSF-17 series does not have a direct 1-for-1 comparison to the SSF-18 series. The new top bracket allows one SSF-17 kit to supersede multiple SSF-18 kits. Ford F-53 applications and associated part numbers vary between coach manufacturer and coach GVWR.Ā Search by Year | Make | Model for more information.

  1. From Canada where can I get them installed tried Rv dealerships and truck repair shops through out Durham region port hope area . They either donā€™t know what they are or donā€™t install aftermarket parts on my Jayco 32ā€™ a class

    1. Hi Paul,

Typically any company that is familiar with suspension work, especially on motorhomes, is able to get the job done. We have heard of others not wanting to perform the installation if the product was not purchased through them, so that can be tricky. However, I’d recommend to try out Action Car and Truck Accessories. They have a bunch of locations all throughout Canada. Here is a link to view all of their locations: https://www.actiontrucks.com/locations

      Hope this helps!

  3. hello i noticed on the installation guide it says to use the bottom 2 holes when mounting the bracket to the frame,, tiffin is installing these at the factory using the top and bottom hole is this ok?
Im seeing post from others where their bolts are breaking and these are new coaches within 5k miles the chasis is f53 open road coaches what should be done to secure these better? is adding a 3rd bolt ok? thanks

    1. Thank you for your entry, we are working on updating our instructions the top and bottom holes are the best holes to place them in for the most support on your vehicle. You can add an additional bolt to the middle hole if you would like that will not hurt the bracket. The position that they placed them in however is correct.

    1. Hey John, we make both SuperSprings and SumoSprings for the ProMaster vans (1500, 2500, and 3500). The SumoSprings are the more popular choice for these vans, as they not only provide load support and stability, but they dampen vibrations to reduce noise and smooth out the ride. The part number is SSR-313-40, SSR-313-47, or SSR-313-54. Depending on the size van you have and what you are using the van for (commercial or recreational), we can make a recommendation on which density would be best for you.

    1. Hello Wes,

Thank you for contacting us today. We are unable to decode the VIN. Can you tell us the type of chassis you have if not send a picture of the coach to [email protected]. If it is a class a motorhome (F-53 chassis) then I will also need the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.) Upon receving that information I will then be able to provide you with the SumoSprings part numbers.

  4. I am interested in Sumo springs maxim for the front and rear of my 2016 Thor ACE motor home. Model 27.1. The GVWR is 16,000- 22,000. I am interested in bolt on application NO Drillong. Can you supply model numbers an possibly installation diagrams. Thank you.

    1. Ozzie,

Thank you for your entry for your coach we have the no drilling application for the front which will be part number SSF-170-40-2, however for the rear because it is a newer version of the coach this will involve drilling. The part for the rear is SSR-187-54-1. Attached below are links to the installation guides for each model.

      Front: https://www.superspringsinternational.com/instructions/INS_SSF-170-40-2.pdf
      Rear: https://www.superspringsinternational.com/instructions/INS_SSR-187-54-1.pdf

    1. Hello Karrie,

Thank you for your question. It depends on which bolts you are referring to.

The bolts that secure the bracket to the frame: 35 foot-pounds.

The bolts that secure the bracket to the SumoSprings: 25 foot-pounds.

The carriage bolts: No torque. Just tight enough to securely attach. If these are too tight, the brackets will bend.

  5. I have a 2013 thor windsport 32 ft. F 53 chassis i have installed a true center damper on it and it drives much better but it rides. pretty rough is it a good option to install you’re sumo springs

    1. Hey Reginald,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question! I definitely recommend giving the SumoSprings a shot! SumoSprings are manufactured from a material called micro-cellular urethane, which is excellent when it comes to dampening that unwanted road-shock and vibration. After installation, the SumoSprings absorb the energy that would normally travel from the road, all the way to your seat, and essentially dissipate it before it even gets to you! Take a look at this page link on our site to learn more about the SumoSprings: https://www.superspringsinternational.com/products/sumosprings/

Part numbers recommended for your specific vehicle can be found by using our year | make | model guide, or email me at [email protected] so I can help you find them.

      Thanks again Reginald!

    1. Hi Marianne, thanks for asking. We do have SumoSprings for your coach. Please e-mail [email protected] with your coach’s GVWR and he can give you a call with recommendations. If you prefer to call him directly, his number is (805) 219-6647.
